"Whoever is given his share of gentleness has indeed been given his share of the good of this world and the Hereafter. Maintaining family ties, good character, and good neighborliness populate lands and increase lifespans." This was recorded by Aḥmad (6/159): ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith narrated to us, Muḥammad ibn Muhzam narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim, who narrated from al-Qāsim from ʿĀʾishah that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to her ... and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic; its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for Muḥammad ibn Muhzam, who was deemed reliable by Ibn Maʿīn. Abū Ḥātim said: There is nothing wrong with him, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt." Al-Mundhirī said in "al-Targhīb" (3/224) and was followed by al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (8/153): "Aḥmad narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy, except that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim did not hear from ʿĀʾishah!" This is what he said, and it seems that from their copies of "al-Musnad," the phrase "ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us" was omitted. It is confirmed in the printed version and is authentic, as ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr followed him from al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad with it, as recorded by al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (3/434 - Maktab version) and he weakened it due to this ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. However, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Qāsim is trustworthy, so his following of him is beneficial and not harmful. I have seen the ḥadīth in a "part" from the narration of Muḥammad ibn Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-Bāghandī, who said (Majmūʿ 107 - Ẓāhiriyyah): Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm and Aḥmad al-Dawrīqī narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Ṣamad ibn ʿAbd al-Wārith narrated to us ... and he transmitted it exactly like Aḥmad except that he only narrated the last part of it with the wording: "Good character, good neighborliness, and maintaining family ties increase lifespans and populate lands."
