It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/232): ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Maʿmar narrated to us from al-Zuhrī from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah who said: he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, and Hishām ibn ʿUrwah corroborated it. Aḥmad (6/229) said: Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, Hishām ibn ʿUrwah narrated to us from his father with similar wording. It is found in Muslim (7/80) from this route without the option, and in al-Bukhārī (2/394) from the first route without the beating.

"O mourners of the Arabs! O mourners of the Arabs! Three times, the thing I fear most for you is ostentation and hidden desire." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr," Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (folio 220/2), Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (7/122) and "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (2/66), and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Zuhd" (2/37/2) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Budayl ibn Warqāʾ al-Khuzāʿī from al-Zuhrī from ʿAbbād ibn Tamīm from his uncle, raised [to the Prophet]. I said: This isnād is ḥasan, its men are trustworthy according to the criteria of Muslim except for ʿAbd Allāh ibn Budayl, about whom Ibn ʿAdī said, "He has things that are criticized for additions in text or isnād, and I did not see any of the early scholars speak about him, so I mention him." I said: Ibn Abī Ḥātim narrated (2/2/15) from Ibn Maʿīn that he said about him, "Ṣāliḥ." Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful but makes mistakes."
