and I used to think that the correct version was (fanfah) with the undotted ḥāʾ, as in the Qāmūs: "nafaḥ al-ṭīb kamanaʿ fāḥ..." until I saw in "al-Nihāyah" under the entry "nafakh": "... from nafakhat al-rīḥ if it came suddenly" so I thought it was correct. And Allāh knows best.
وكنت أظنأن الصواب (فنفح) بالحاء المهملة، ففي القاموس: " نفح الطيب كمنع فاح ..." حتى رأيت في " النهاية " في مادة " نفخ ": " ... من نفخت الريح إذا جاءتبغتة " فظننت أنها صحيحة. والله أعلم.
"It is not appropriate to punish with fire except the Lord of the fire." It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (2675): Abū Ṣāliḥ Maḥbūb ibn Mūsá told us, Abū Isḥāq al-Fazārī informed us from Abū Isḥāq al-Shaybānī from Ibn Saʿd - others than Abū Ṣāliḥ said from al-Ḥasan ibn Saʿd from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh from his father who said: "We were with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) on a journey, and he went off for his need. We saw a red bird with two chicks, and we took its chicks. The bird came and began to flutter. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came and said: Who has distressed this by taking its child? Return its child to it. And he saw a village of ants that we had burned, and he said: Who burned this? We said: We did. He said," and he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is authentic; all its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs except Maḥbūb ibn Mūsá, and he is trustworthy. And ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who is Ibn Masʿūd, has heard from his father according to the most likely opinion with us, as previously explained in ḥadīth (197). And al-Masʿūdī followed him from al-Ḥasan ibn Saʿd with it, without the story of the ants. It was narrated by Aḥmad (1/404)
" إنه لا ينبغي أن يعذب بالنار إلا رب النار ". أخرجه أبو داود (٢٦٧٥) : حدثنا أبو صالح محبوب بن موسى أخبرنا أبو إسحاق الفزاري عن أبي إسحاق الشيباني عن ابن سعد - قال غير أبي صالح عن الحسن بن سعد عن عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله عن أبيه قال: " كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في سفر، فانطلق لحاجته، فرأينا حمرة معها فرخان، فأخذنا فرخيها، فجاءت الحمرة، فجعلت تفرش، فجاء النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال: من فجع هذه بولدها؟ ردوا ولدها إليها. ورأى قرية نمل قد حرقناها، فقال: من حرق هذه؟ قلنا: نحن، قال ". فذكره. قلت: وهذا إسناد صحيح، رجاله كلهم ثقات رجال الشيخين غير محبوب بن موسى، وهو ثقة. وعبد الرحمن بن عبد الله وهو ابن مسعود قد سمع من أبيه على الراجح عندنا كما سبق بيانه عند الحديث (١٩٧) . وقد تابعه المسعودي عن الحسن بن سعد به. دون قصة النمل. أخرجه أحمد (١ / ٤٠٤) .
