I said: and this is a sound chain of transmission; all its narrators are reliable according to the criteria of Muslim, except for Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī, who is Abū Yaʿlá al-Mawṣilī, the ḥāfiẓ, the author of "al-Musnad," and he is a trustworthy ḥāfiẓ. There is another route for the ḥadīth, recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/457) through the route of Qatādah from Abū Majlaz from Qays ibn ʿAbbād from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, who mentioned it similarly in an extended form as a mawqūf report. It is considered marfūʿ in ruling, and he said: "Its chain is authentic according to their criteria, mawqūf." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. He also has another route for it (4/455-456) from him as a mawqūf report as well. It has a corroborating report from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah in marfūʿ form: "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, this nation will not perish until a man approaches a woman and lays her down in the street, and the best among them on that day will be the one who says, 'If only you had covered her behind this wall.'" It was recorded by Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (folio 291/2) from Khalaf ibn Khalīfah, who narrated to us from Yazīd ibn Kaysān from Abū Ḥāzim from him. I said: and the men of its chain are reliable according to the criteria of Muslim, except that this Khalaf became confused in the end, and he claimed to have seen ʿAmr ibn Ḥurayth, the Companion, which was denied by Ibn ʿUyaynah and Aḥmad, as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." Al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (8/331): "It was narrated by Abū Yaʿlá, and its men are the men of the authentic collections!" It has another route from Abū Hurayrah, with a weak chain and an addition at the end: "In them, he is like Abū Bakr and ʿUmar among you."
