"I came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: O Messenger of Allāh, tell me what is lawful for me from what is unlawful for me. He said:" and he mentioned it. It is also recorded in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (4/375) with this chain of narration without the reason for the ḥadīth. I said: Its chain of narration is authentic, all its narrators are trustworthy according to "al-Tahdhīb". It is found in "al-Ṣaḥīḥayn" and "al-Sunan" and other sources through another route with the wording: "He forbade eating every predator with fangs." It is also recorded in "al-Irwāʾ" (2552). There is corroboration from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah with the wording: "Every predator with fangs, its consumption is forbidden."
" أتيت النبي ﷺ فقلت: يا رسول الله حدثني ما يحل لي مما يحرم علي، فقال: " فذكره. وأخرجه في " مشكل الآثار " (٤ / ٣٧٥) بهذا الإسناد دون سبب الحديث. قلت: وإسناده صحيح رجاله كلهم ثقات من رجال " التهذيب ". وهو في " الصحيحين " و " السنن " وغيرها من طريق أخرى بلفظ: " نهى عن أكل كل ذي ناب من السباع ". وهو مخرج في " الارواء " (٢٥٥٢) . وله شاهد من حديث أبي هريرة بلفظ: " كل ذي ناب من السباع فأكله حرام ".

- "Every predator with fangs, its consumption is forbidden." It was recorded by Muslim, Mālik, al-Shāfiʿī, Aḥmad, al-Ṭaḥāwī, and al-Bayhaqī through the route of ʿUbaydah ibn Sufyān from him. There is another route from Abū Hurayrah with the same meaning. Its chain of narration is good, I have recorded it in the previous source (2553). The fiqh of the ḥadīth provides evidence that the domesticated donkey and every predator with fangs are forbidden to eat and not merely disliked, as some contemporary interpreters have claimed, interpreting the prohibition as one of dislike. And when he saw the explicit prohibition in the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, he claimed it was a narration by meaning, but this is refuted by the fact that if the narration by meaning is from the Companion, who is Abū Hurayrah, then he is more knowledgeable about it than those after him. If he means it is from some of those after him, it is refuted by the occurrence of the wording of prohibition from the other route. It is further confirmed by the fact that Abū Thaʿlabah asked the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about what is lawful for him and what is forbidden, and he answered him by saying: "Do not eat..." This is a clear text that the prohibition is for the purpose of forbidding, because that is what Abū Thaʿlabah asked about, and not..
- " كل ذي ناب من السباع فأكله حرام ". أخرجه مسلم ومالك والشافعي وأحمد والطحاوي والبيهقي من طريق عبيدة ابن سفيان عنه. وله طريق أخرى عن أبي هريرة بمعناه. وإسناده جيد، خرجته في المصدر السابق (٢٥٥٣) . فقه الحديث فيه دليل على أن الحمار الأهلي وكل ذي ناب من الوحوش حرام أكله وليس مكروها فقط، كما زعم بعض المفسرين في هذا العصر وتأول النهي على أنه للتنزيه. ولما رأى التصريح بالتحريم في حديث أبي هريرة زعم أنه رواية بالمعنى، ويدفعه أنه إن كانت الرواية بالمعنى من الصحابي وهو أبو هريرة فهو أدرى به ممن بعده، وإن كان يعني أنه من بعض من بعده فيرده مجيئه بلفظ التحريم من الطريق الأخرى. ويؤكده أن أبا ثعلبة سأل النبي ﷺ عما يحل له وما يحرم؟ فأجابه بقوله: " لا تأكل ...
