and unfortunately, some of them extracted the words of Shaykh Muḥyī al-Dīn Ibn ʿArabī (the obscure) indicating the continuation of this alleged prophethood from his book "al-Futūḥāt al-Makkiyyah" in a booklet that they published among the people, and none of the shaykhs could refute them. Previously, they had composed some treatises in refutation of them, but they refrained from responding to this booklet because the compiler cunningly included nothing from himself, only mentioning the words of the shaykh that supported their aforementioned delusion. If they refuted him, the refutation would be directed at the Greatest Shaykh, which none of them dared to do, lest they be seen as heretics! It is as if they believe that falsehood is determined by the person; if it arises from someone they consider an unbeliever, it is false, but if it arises from someone they consider a Muslim, even a saint, it is true!! And Allāh's help is sought.

- "Which of you will the dogs of al-Ḥawʾab bark at?" It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/52) from Yaḥyá, who is Ibn Saʿīd, and (6/97) from Shuʿbah, and Abū Isḥāq al-Ḥarbī in "Gharīb al-Ḥadīth" (5/78/1) from ʿAbdah, and Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1831 - Mawārid) from Wakīʿ and ʿAlī ibn Mus-hir, and Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (Q 223/2) from Ibn Faḍīl, and al-Ḥākim (3/120) from Yaʿlá ibn ʿUbayd, all of them from Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim that when ʿĀʾishah came to al-Ḥawʾab, she heard the barking of the dogs and said, "I think I should return, for the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to us: (and he mentioned it). So al-Zubayr said to her: You will return? Perhaps Allāh will reconcile the people through you."
