- "When he would finish the morning prayer, he would say: Has anyone among you seen a dream last night? And he would say: Nothing remains of prophethood after me except the righteous dream." It was recorded by Mālik in "al-Muwaṭṭaʾ" (2/956/2) and by al-Ḥākim (4/390-391) through the chain of Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Ṭalḥah from Zufar ibn Ṣaʿṣaʿah from his father from Abū Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to... Al-Ḥākim said: "Its chain of transmission is authentic." And al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is as they said. The second part of it was recorded by al-Bukhārī (4/349) through the chain of Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib that Abū Hurayrah said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: "Nothing remains of prophethood except the glad tidings." They asked: What are the glad tidings? He said: The righteous dream. The ḥadīth has many supporting narrations that I have documented in "Irwāʾ al-Ghalīl" number (2539). The ḥadīth explicitly states that there is no prophethood or revelation after the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) except the glad tidings: the righteous dream, which is one part of forty-six parts of prophethood. A group has gone astray claiming the continuation of prophethood after him (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and they interpreted or nullified the meaning of this ḥadīth and others like it in the chapter, and they distorted the saying of Allāh, the Exalted: (But he is the Messenger of Allāh and the Seal of the Prophets) with their saying: meaning the adornment of the prophets! At times they say: He is the last of the legislative prophets, and they claim the continuation of non-legislative prophethood
