- "Indeed, Satan has despaired of being worshiped in your land, but he is content with what you consider insignificant." It was recorded by Imām Aḥmad (2/368): Muʿāwiyah narrated to us: Abū Isḥāq narrated from al-Aʿmash from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. And Abū Isḥāq is al-Fazārī. And Muʿāwiyah is Ibn ʿAmr Ibn al-Muhallab al-Azdī al-Kūfī al-Baghdādī, and through his route, it was recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (8/256) and he said: "Authentic and established, narrated by al-Aʿmash by all people." I say: Among them is al-Thawrī with Abū Nuʿaym (7/86). The ḥadīth has a corroborating narration from Ibn Masʿūd, recorded by Abū Yaʿlá in his Musnad with a weak isnād, and recorded by Aḥmad (1/402-403) in a shortened form with another isnād containing an unknown narrator, ʿAbd Rabbih Ibn Abī Yazīd, and al-Haythamī's statement in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/189): "It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ' and their narrators are those of the authentic collections, except for ʿImrān Ibn Dāwūd al-Qaṭṭān, who has been deemed reliable." This is incorrect, because this ʿAbd Rabbih was not recorded by al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Likewise, al-Mundhirī's statement in "al-Targhīb" (3/145): "... with a good isnād" is not accurate due to the unknown narrator mentioned. There is another authentic ḥadīth regarding minor sins that was previously mentioned under number (384).
