- "His companions would throw watermelon at each other, but when it came to serious matters, they were the men for the task." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (41): Ṣadaqah narrated to us, saying: Muʿtamir informed us from Ḥabīb Abū Muḥammad from Bakr ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, who said: and he mentioned it. This is an authentic chain of transmission; its men are the men of al-Bukhārī in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" except for this Ḥabīb, who is trustworthy and devout as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." And Bakr ibn ʿUbayd Allāh is how it appears in our copy, but it is a distortion. The correct name is Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh—enlarged—and he is the son of ʿAmr ibn Hilāl al-Muzanī. He is a trustworthy, reliable, and noble figure from the middle generation of the Followers, who met a large number of the Companions and narrated from them.
