I said: The ḥadīth was mentioned by al-Ḥākim in two places in "al-Mustadrak" (4/198-199, 399-401) with both the wording of al-Ṭabarānī and the wording referred to by al-Mundhirī. It seems that al-Mundhirī (may Allāh have mercy on him) did not come across the first wording in "al-Mustadrak," otherwise he would not have criticized it as he did. Al-Ḥākim said after it: "Abū al-Ḥasan (al-Dāraquṭnī) said: ʿAlī ibn al-Aqmar and Mujāhid have narrated from Usāmah ibn Sharīk." If it is said: This contradicts al-Ḥākim's statement "because Usāmah has only one narrator." I said: Yes, it contradicts it if al-Mundhirī's transmission from al-Ḥākim is considered correct in its wording, but it is not so. His exact wording is as follows: "They did not include it, and the defect according to them is that Usāmah ibn Sharīk has no narrator other than Ziyād ibn ʿAlāqah." By saying "according to them," he indicated that the matter is not the same according to al-Ḥākim himself, and he clarified this in the second place as I mentioned earlier. And Allāh knows best. Then the ḥadīth was also narrated by Ibn Mājah (2/339-340), al-Ṭayālisī (no. 1233), and Aḥmad (4/278) through various chains from Ziyād ibn ʿAlāqah with the second wording.
