al-Dhahabī critiqued it by saying: "Its defect is its disconnection, for this Abū Ḥāzim is the one from Medina, not the Ashjaʿī, and Abū Ṣakhr did not meet the Ashjaʿī, nor did the one from Medina meet Abū Hurayrah." I said: Aḥmad and his son ʿAbd Allāh connected it by mentioning Abū Ṣāliḥ between the one from Medina and Abū Hurayrah, and both are reliable authorities, thus the defect is removed and the ḥadīth is established, and all praise is due to Allāh. I have also found another route for it from Abū Hurayrah, narrated by al-Khaṭīb (3/117) from Abū al-Ḥusayn Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAbbās al-Faqīh, who reported to us from Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah, who reported from his father and his uncle Abū Bakr, from Abū ʿUbaydah al-Ḥaddād, from Ibn ʿAwn, from Ibn Sīrīn and al-Ḥasan who said: "We lived to a time when there was no love," Abū Hurayrah said: "I heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say," and he mentioned it in the wording of the ḥadīth of Sahl. Its narrators are trustworthy, except for this Abū al-Ḥusayn, about whom al-Khaṭīb said: "There is unfamiliarity in his narrations." Then he cited this ḥadīth for him. The ḥadīth was also reported by al-Bayhaqī in "his Sunan" (10/236-237) through the route of ʿUthmān ibn Saʿīd: "Hārūn ibn Maʿrūf al-Baghdādī narrated to us with the same isnād and text as Aḥmad." And it has a supporting narration with the wording:
