I said: This is how he named his father as Faḍl, whereas in "al-Mīzān" and "Tārīkh Baghdād" (8/221-223), it is al-Ḥakam ibn Faḍīl in the diminutive form, which is closer to the name's form in "al-Musnad." Accordingly, the word (ʿan) between al-Ḥakam and Faḍīl is a distortion of (ibn), and the dot on the ḍād was omitted by the printer or copyist. It was recorded by Muslim (6/100) through the route of Zayd ibn Abī Unaysah from Saʿīd ibn Abī Burdah who narrated to us from Abū Burdah from his father who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent me and Muʿādh to Yemen and said": and he mentioned it. He added: "I said, O Messenger of Allāh, give us a verdict regarding two drinks we used to make in Yemen: al-Bitʿ, which is made from honey and left to ferment until it becomes strong, and al-Mizr, which is made from corn and barley and left to ferment until it becomes strong." He said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was given comprehensive words with conclusive meanings, and he said: I forbid every intoxicant that intoxicates from prayer." In another narration (6/99): "and teach" instead of: "and do not make them difficult." The ḥadīth has been reported with the wording "when he sent someone" and "make things easy and do not make them difficult."
