the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saying: and he mentioned it. Al-Haythamī said (8/116): "It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Bazzār through various chains, and there is a narrator who is not named." I said: The second chain is the chain of Abū Ḥayyān, whose name is Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd al-Taymī, and it does not contain an unnamed narrator, as it was narrated from him by Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān, who narrated it from Mujammaʿ, who is ibn Yaḥyá ibn Yazīd al-Anṣārī, from Saʿd. And this chain consists of trustworthy men, the men of Muslim, so it is authentic if Mujammaʿ heard it from Saʿd. Then al-Haythamī said: "The best of them is what Aḥmad narrated from Zayd ibn Aslam from Saʿd who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: The Hour will not be established until a people emerge who eat with their tongues as cattle eat with their tongues." And its narrators are the narrators of the authentic collections, except that Zayd ibn Aslam did not hear from Saʿd. And Allāh knows best." I said: The chain of Zayd ibn Aslam according to Aḥmad (1/184): Suraij ibn al-Nuʿmān narrated to us, ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, meaning al-Darāwardī, narrated from him. And this chain consists of trustworthy men, the men of al-Bukhārī, except for al-Darāwardī, who is from the men of Muslim, but it is disconnected as al-Haythamī mentioned. In summary, the ḥadīth through these chains is ḥasan, if Allāh wills, or ṣaḥīḥ, as it has a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, which is raised and similar. It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī and he graded it as ḥasan, and its extraction will come under number (878).
