"a man from the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) met me and took hold of my shoulder from behind, saying: 'Indeed, I love you.' I replied: 'May the One for whom you love me also love you.' He said: 'If it were not that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: (and he mentioned it), I would not have informed you.' He said: Then he began to propose to me, saying: 'Indeed, we have a girl, but she is blind in one eye.'" I said: This isnād is good, and all its narrators are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" except for Rabāḥ, who is Ibn Abī Maʿrūf Ibn Abī Sārah al-Makkī, from the men of Muslim. There is some discussion about him, but his ḥadīth does not fall below the rank of ḥasan, and in "al-Taqrīb": "truthful but has errors." This: And in our copy of "al-Adab": Rabāḥ from Abū ʿUbayd Allāh as I have seen. This is a scribal error, I have no doubt about it, for Rabāḥ narrates directly from Mujāhid without an intermediary, and from him, Sufyān al-Thawrī. It is possible that the word (from) between Rabāḥ and Abū ʿUbayd Allāh is an addition by the pen of some copyists, so the original would be: Rabāḥ Abū ʿUbayd Allāh. If this is correct, then Abū ʿUbayd Allāh is the kunya of Rabāḥ, which is a significant benefit, as I have not found his kunya in any of the biographical dictionaries I have. And Allāh knows best. There is another supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Anas, who said: "I was sitting with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when a man passed by. A man from the people said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, indeed I love this man.' He said: 'Have you informed him of that?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Stand and inform him.' So he went to him and said: 'O so-and-so, by Allāh, I love you for the sake of Allāh.' He said: 'May the One for whom you love me also love you.'" It was narrated by Aḥmad (3/140-141): Zayd ibn al-Ḥubbāb narrated to us, Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid narrated to us: Thābit al-Banānī narrated to me from Anas ibn Mālik. And this isnād is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim. Ibn Ḥibbān authenticated it (2513) through the route of
"لقيني رجل من أصحاب النبي ﷺ فأخذ بمنكبي من ورائي قال: أما إني أحبك، قلت: أحبك الذي أحببتني له، فقال: لولا أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: (فذكره) لما أخبرتك. قال: ثم أخذ يعرض علي الخطبة قال: أما إن عندنا جارية، أما إنها عوراء". قلت: وهذا إسناد حسن رجاله كلهم ثقات رجال البخاري في "صحيحه" غير رباح وهو ابن أبي معروف بن أبي سارة المكي فمن رجال مسلم، وفيه كلام لا ينزل حديثه عن رتبة الحسن، وفي "التقريب": "صدوق له أوهام". هذا: وفي نسختنا من "الأدب": رباح عن أبي عبيد الله كما رأيت. وهو تصحيف لا أشك فيه فإن رباح هذا يروى عن مجاهد مباشرة بلا واسطة وعنه سفيان الثوري، فيحتمل أن يكون حرف (عن) بين رباح وأبي عبيد الله زيادة من قلم بعض النساخ فيكون الأصل: رباح أبي عبيد الله، فإذا صح هذا فيكون أبو عبيد الله كنية رباح هذا وهي فائدة غزيرة، حيث لم أقف على كنيته في شيء من كتب التراجم التي عندي. والله أعلم. وللحديث شاهد آخر من حديث أنس قال: "كنت جالسا عند رسول الله ﷺ إذ مر رجل، فقال رجل من القوم: يا رسول الله إني لأحب هذا الرجل، قال: هل أعلمته ذلك؟ قال: لا، فقال: قم فأعلمه، قال: فقام إليه فقال: يا هذا والله إني لأحبك في الله، قال: أحبك الذي أحببتني له". رواه أحمد (٣ / ١٤٠ - ١٤١): حدثنا زيد بن الحباب حدثنا حسين بن واقد: حدثنا ثابت البناني حدثني أنس بن مالك. وهذا سند صحيح على شرط مسلم. وصححه ابن حبان (٢٥١٣) من طريق
