"I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no deity but Allāh. When they say it, they protect their blood and wealth from me except by its right. It was said, 'And what is its right?' He said, 'Adultery after being married, disbelief after Islam, or killing a soul for which one is killed in retaliation.'" It is stated in "al-Majmaʿ" (1/25-26): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ' and it includes ʿAmr ibn Hāshim al-Bayrūtī, and most consider him reliable." In "al-Taqrīb": He is truthful but makes mistakes. Moreover, the ḥadīth has been narrated by other Companions than those we mentioned, so whoever wishes to review that should refer to "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (1/24-27). I said: In these ḥadīths, there is clear evidence of the obligation to fight for the sake of spreading the call, contrary to what some writers in this era claim. Among the wordings of the previous ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah: "I fight the people until they testify that there is no deity but Allāh, and believe in me and what I have brought. When they do that, they protect their blood and wealth from me except by its right, and their reckoning is with Allāh."

- "I have been commanded to fight the people until they testify that there is no deity but Allāh, and believe in me and what I have brought. When they do that, they protect their blood and wealth from me except by its right, and their reckoning is with Allāh." It was recorded by Muslim (1/39) through the route of al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yaʿqūb from his father from Abū Hurayrah in a marfūʿ form. The ḥadīth is authentic and mutawātir from Abū Hurayrah and others through various routes with similar wordings, and I have referred to them earlier.
