the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Kuná" from "al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr" (p. 6), al-Tirmidhī, al-Dārimī (2/102), al-Ḥākim (2/397-398), Aḥmad (3/497), as well as al-Nasāʾī in "Majlisayn min al-Amālī" (q. 58/2), al-Dūlābī in "al-Kuná" (1/15), al-ʿUqaylī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" (339), al-Khaṭīb in "al-Mawḍiḥ" (2/94), and al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (3/190/2) through various chains from Sufyān. Al-Tirmidhī said: "This is a strange ḥadīth from this perspective; we only know it from the ḥadīth of Sufyān al-Thawrī from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿĪsá." I said: Both of them are trustworthy and relied upon in "al-Ṣaḥīḥayn," but its flaw is from this ʿAṭāʾ, and it seems his condition was hidden from al-Tirmidhī, otherwise he would have criticized it as al-ʿUqaylī did, for it was narrated from al-Bukhārī that he said about him: "His ḥadīth is not established." Al-ʿUqaylī said: "It is this, and it has been narrated with another isnād from another weak source as well." Al-Dhahabī said in "al-Mīzān," mentioning this ḥadīth: "Al-Bukhārī considered his ḥadīth lenient; it is not known who he is." Then al-Dhahabī forgot this, for when al-Ḥākim said after the ḥadīth: "Its isnād is authentic!" he agreed with him! 3 - The ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah. It is narrated by ʿAbd Allāh ibn Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī who said: I heard my grandfather narrating from Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) with it
