the ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb." Al-Haythamī limited his criticism to the first of them, which is a shortcoming. (Note) The first ḥadīth of Jābir was attributed by al-Mundhirī in "al-Targhīb" (3/168) to al-Tirmidhī as well, which is an error, for al-Tirmidhī did not report it, nor have I seen it attributed to him outside of "al-Targhīb." It should be verified whether this is a mistake by the author, the copyist, or the printer. Thus, it necessitated this note. After writing the above, I found another chain for the ḥadīth from Ibrāhīm al-Ṣāʾigh. It was reported by al-Khaṭīb in "Tārīkh Baghdād" (6/377, 11/302) through the route of ʿAmmār ibn Naṣr and Aḥmad ibn Shujāʿ al-Marwazī from Ḥakīm ibn Zayd al-Ashʿarī from him. All the men in the chain are trustworthy except for this Ḥakīm. Al-Dhahabī and then al-ʿAsqalānī mentioned him, saying: "from Abū Isḥāq al-Sabīʿī, al-Azdī said there is a question about him!" They overlooked Ibn Abī Ḥātim's biography of him, where he said (1/2/204-205): "He narrated from Abū Isḥāq al-Hamdānī and Ibrāhīm al-Ṣāʾigh. Abū Thumaylah and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Rabīʿ al-ʿĀʾidhī al-Kirmānī narrated from him. I heard my father say that. I asked him about him, and he said: He is sound, a shaykh." I said: This is an important biography, and by reviewing it, the heart is reassured of the authenticity of the ḥadīth. This necessitated its inclusion in this series, and all praise is due to Allāh for His guidance and grace.

- "This matter will remain with Quraysh as long as there are two people left among the people." It was reported by al-Bukhārī (6/416, 13/100), Muslim (7/3), al-Ṭayālisī (no. 1956), and Aḥmad (2/29, 93, 128) from ʿĀṣim ibn Muḥammad ibn Zayd from his father from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar as marfūʿ.
