- "This matter will remain honorable until twelve caliphs, all of whom are from Quraysh." It was recorded by Muslim (6/3) with this wording, and by Abū Dāwūd (2/207) and Aḥmad (5/93, 98) through the route of Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind from al-Shaʿbī from Jābir ibn Samurah, as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. In another wording: "This matter will remain honorable and invincible, and they will be victorious over those who oppose them until twelve caliphs, all of whom are from Quraysh." It was recorded by Muslim (6/3-4) and Aḥmad (5/101) and his son in "Zawāʾid al-Musnad" (5/98) from Ibn ʿAwn from al-Shaʿbī with it. There is another route with the wording: "This matter will continue until twelve leaders arise, all of whom are from Quraysh." It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/97-98, 101): narrated to us by Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr, who said, "I heard Jābir ibn Samurah say, as a marfūʿ ḥadīth." This is a sound chain of narration according to their criteria. Muslim also recorded it from him with the wording: "The matter of the people will continue."
