"its isnād is authentic." al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "I say: al-Ṣaffār, no one knows who he is." I say: and similarly Ibn Ashras, as Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him (1/2/482) from the narration of Aḥmad ibn Manṣūr ibn Rāshid al-Marwazī about him, without mentioning any criticism or endorsement. However, this ḥadīth was also narrated by two others, Aḥmad ibn Sayyār and Muḥammad ibn al-Layth, so he is of unknown status. al-Haythamī mentioned the ḥadīth in "al-Majmaʿ" (9/368) from Ibn ʿAbbās as marfūʿ and said: "al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in 'al-Awsaṭ' and it is weak." The first part of it has another chain from Jābir, narrated by Abū Ḥammād al-Ḥanafī from Ibn ʿUqayl who said: I heard Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) as marfūʿ in the story of the killing of Ḥamzah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu). al-Ḥākim extracted it (2/119-120) and said: "its isnād is authentic." al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "Abū Ḥammād is al-Mufaḍḍal ibn Ṣadaqah, al-Nasāʾī said: abandoned."
