and the statement of al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (3/306): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ' and 'al-Kabīr' and its narrators are the narrators of the authentic collections" is not correct in its absolute sense. It is his habit to make such a statement: "and its narrators are the narrators of the authentic collections," meaning from above the shaykh of al-Ṭabarānī. Be aware of this, as it is useful in matters of dispute and verification. Then I saw the ḥadīth in "Tārīkh Ibn ʿAsākir" (16/241/2) through the route of ʿĪsá ibn Ḥammād who informed us from al-Layth with it.

"Wear new clothes, live commendably, and die as a martyr." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (3558), Ibn al-Sunnī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (262), Aḥmad and Isḥāq in their "Musnads," al-Nasāʾī in "al-Kubrā," and al-Ṭabarānī, all from ʿAbd al-Razzāq from Maʿmar from al-Zuhrī from Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar from his father who said: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw a white garment on ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) and said: Is this garment of yours new or washed? He said: Rather, it is washed, (in another narration: new), and then he mentioned it. al-Dabari added: And may Allāh grant you the delight of your eyes in this world and the Hereafter. He said: And you too, O Messenger of Allāh." al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "Natāʾij al-Afkār" (1/27/2): "This is a ḥasan gharīb ḥadīth, and the narrators of the isnād are the narrators of the authentic collections, but al-Nasāʾī criticized it, saying: This is a munkar ḥadīth, as Yaḥyá al-Qaṭṭān criticized ʿAbd al-Razzāq for it. Al-Nasāʾī said: It has also been narrated from him connected, meaning al-Zuhrī, and it has been narrated from him mursal."
