al-Ṭaḥāwī weakened it by saying: "Mandal is not among those who are reliable. And although Layth is among the virtuous, his narration is not considered strong by the scholars." I said: Mandal has been corroborated by Huraym, who is trustworthy and among the men of the two Shaykhs, thus he is absolved from it, and the issue is confined to Layth, who is the defect in the ḥadīth, and he is weak. The ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but he mixed up [his narrations] at the end and his ḥadīth were not distinguished, so they were abandoned." And if this is known, it is not permissible to oppose the ḥadīth of the chapter with this weak ḥadīth, as some of those ignorant of the traditions did, as mentioned by Imām al-Ṭaḥāwī, may Allāh have mercy on him.

- "There is no man who assumes authority over ten people or more except that he will come to Allāh on the Day of Resurrection shackled, his hand to his neck; his righteousness will free him or his sin will destroy him. Its beginning is blame, its middle is regret, and its end is disgrace on the Day of Resurrection." It was narrated by Aḥmad (5/267) who said: Abū al-Yamān narrated to us, Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh narrated to us from Yazīd ibn (Abī) Mālik from Luqmān ibn ʿĀmir from Abū Umāmah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: and he mentioned it. I said: This is a good Syrian isnād, all its men are trustworthy, and regarding Yazīd, who is Ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Mālik al-Dimashqī, the judge, there is some discussion, but his ḥadīth does not fall below the level of ḥasan. And the ḥāfiẓ said about him in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but he may err." And al-Haythamī said about the ḥadīth (5/205): "It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is Yazīd ibn Abī Mālik, whom Ibn Ḥibbān and others considered trustworthy, and the rest..
