ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn Jaʿfar from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Thaʿlabah from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Kaʿb ibn Mālik said: I heard your father say: and he mentioned it. I said: The men of this route are all trustworthy, unlike the previous one, which includes ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, who is from Ḥimṣ and is weak. And his teacher ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Ḥakīm ibn Ḥizām, I did not find a biography for him. It agrees with the previous route in naming the man as "ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb," contrary to the last route, which mentions "ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Kaʿb," and it is better. Both ʿAbd Allāh and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān are trustworthy. The combination of these three routes leads us to be convinced of the existence of an intermediary between ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Umāmah and his father. This is further supported by what al-Ṭabarānī also narrated with an authentic chain from al-Munīb ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Umāmah ibn Thaʿlabah, who said: "I returned from the mosque, and there was a man in white clothes, a shirt and a long cloak, and a turban without a cap, which was let down behind him as much as in front of him. He said to me: Your grandfather Abū Umāmah ibn Thaʿlabah informed me from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he mentioned it. It appears that this unnamed man is the son of Kaʿb ibn Mālik, and thus he narrated this ḥadīth to ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Umāmah as mentioned in the previous routes, and to his son al-Munīb as in this narration. However, this al-Munīb is unknown, and no one narrated from him except his son ʿAbd Allāh, who narrated this ḥadīth from him, and therefore his narration is not relied upon. In summary, the narrators have differed concerning ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Umāmah in this
