a lower garment and a cloak that were trailing. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "O ʿAmr ibn Zurārah! Indeed, Allāh does not love those who let their garments trail." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (8/277-7909) through two chains from Ibrāhīm ibn al-ʿAlāʾ al-Ḥimṣī: narrated to us by al-Walīd ibn Muslim from al-Walīd ibn Abī al-Sāʾib from al-Qāsim from him. It was previously mentioned under ḥadīth (2682); and we quoted there from al-Haythamī who said (5/124): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī with chains, and the men of one of them are trustworthy." And I say now: it appears he means this chain, and it is as he said, and it is good except that al-Walīd ibn Muslim practices tadlīs al-taswiyah. The other: it is narrated by Abū al-Ḥajjāj from Saʿīd al-Thaqafī from a man of his people who said: A man passed by the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) dragging his lower garment, and he said to him: "Raise your lower garment; for indeed Allāh does not love those who let their garments trail." He said: "There is a deformity in my legs!" The Messenger of Allāh said: "What is on your lower garment is worse than what is on your legs." It was recorded by al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (2/232/2-223/1). I say: Its narrators are trustworthy; except for Abū al-Ḥajjāj and his teacher al-Thaqafī; I did not know them. In summary, the ḥadīth is good considering all its chains. And Allāh knows best. *
