that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was asked about the earnings of a cupper, and he said: ... and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/307 and 381). Its chain of transmission is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim. Another narration from Abū Balj Yaḥyá ibn Abī Sulaym states: I heard ʿAbāyah ibn Riqāʿah ibn Rāfiʿ ibn Khadīj narrate: that when his grandfather died, he left behind a slave girl, a camel, a cupper servant, and land. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) spoke about the slave girl and prohibited her earnings (Shuʿbah said: fearing that she might engage in immorality). He said: "What the cupper earns, feed it to the camel." And regarding the land, he said: "Cultivate it or leave it." It was recorded by Aḥmad (4/141) - and this is his wording - and al-Ṭabarānī (4405-4408). I say: And this Abū Balj is reliable but has some weakness; thus, the chain is authentic based on what has preceded. A third corroborating narration is reported by Yazīd ibn Rabīʿah: Abū al-Ashʿath narrated to us from Thawbān: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) underwent cupping and gave the cupper his wages and said: ... and he mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (1422). However, this Yazīd is abandoned. (Note): This ḥadīth was previously referenced under number (1400) in this "series," but here there are benefits not present there. And all praise is due to Allāh.
