(If you differ regarding the road, its width should be made seven cubits). It is narrated from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, Ibn ʿAbbās, ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit, Anas ibn Mālik, and Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh. 1- As for the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, there are several chains from him: The first: from Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ from Yūsuf ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith from his father from Abū Hurayrah, reported as marfūʿ. It is recorded by Muslim (5/59), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "Mushkil al-Āthār" (2/71), Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (7/261/5044), al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (8/248/2175), and Aḥmad (2/228), as well as al-Bayhaqī (6/154). The second: from al-Muthannā ibn Saʿīd al-Ḍubʿī from Qatādah from Bushayr ibn Kaʿb al-ʿAdawī from Abū Hurayrah, reported similarly. It is recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4/48/3633), al-Tirmidhī (5/36/1356) - who authenticated it -, Ibn Mājah (2338), al-Ṭaḥāwī (2/70), Aḥmad (2/429, 466, 474), and Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (7/255/3075). The third: from Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim from al-Zubayr ibn Khirrīt from ʿIkrimah: I heard Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) say: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) ruled, when they disputed about the road, that it should be seven cubits wide.
