i used to hear people mention the basin; but I did not hear that from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). Then one day, while the servant girl was combing my hair, I heard the Messenger of Allāh say: "O people!" So I said to the servant girl: Step back from me; she said: He only called the men, and did not call the women! I said: I am among the people! Then the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. The context is from Muslim; and the wording of Aḥmad: "O people! While I am at the basin, you will be brought in groups, and the paths will diverge for you, so I will call you: Come to the path! Then a caller will call after me: They have changed after you, so I will say: Away with them! Away with them!" Its chain of narration is good according to the criteria of Muslim. The ḥadīth is in "Zawāʾid al-Jāmiʿ" by al-Suyūṭī narrated only by Muslim; and it was previously mentioned under ḥadīth (2948).
