- "If there were to be a prophet after me, it would be ʿUmar." Narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2/293) who graded it as ḥasan, and al-Ḥākim (3/85) who authenticated it, and Aḥmad (4/154), and al-Ruyānī in his "Musnad" (50/1), and al-Ṭabarānī as in "al-Muntaqá min Ḥadīthih" (4/7/2), and Abū Bakr al-Najjād in "al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqāt" (17/1-2), and Ibn Samʿūn in "al-Amālī" (172/2), and Abū Bakr al-Qaṭīʿī in "al-Fawāʾid al-Muntaqāt" (4/7/2), and al-Khaṭīb in "al-Mawḍiḥ" (2/226), and Ibn ʿAsākir (3/210/2) from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Muqriʾ who reported from Ḥayywah from Bakr ibn ʿAmr from Musharḥ ibn Hāʿān from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir as marfūʿ. Then al-Najjād narrated it from the route of Ibn Lahīʿah from Musharḥ with it. I say: This isnād is ḥasan, all its narrators are trustworthy, and regarding Musharḥ, there is some discussion, but his ḥadīth does not fall below the rank of ḥasan, and Ibn Maʿīn has declared him trustworthy. It has two supporting narrations, one of them from the ḥadīth of ʿIṣmah. Narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is al-Faḍl ibn al-Mukhtār who is weak. The other is from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī. Narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ." Al-Haythamī said (9/68): "And in it is ʿAbd al-Munʿim ibn Bashīr who is weak."
- " لو كان بعدي نبي لكان عمر ". رواه الترمذي (٢ / ٢٩٣) وحسنه، والحاكم (٣ / ٨٥) وصححه، وأحمد (٤ / ١٥٤) والروياني في " مسنده " (٥٠ / ١) والطبراني كما في " المنتقى من حديثه " (٤ / ٧ / ٢) ، وأبو بكر النجاد في " الفوائد المنتقاة " (١٧ / ١ - ٢) وابن سمعون في " الأمالي " (١٧٢ / ٢) وأبو بكر القطيعي في " الفوائد المنتقاة " (٤ / ٧ / ٢) والخطيب في " الموضح " (٢ / ٢٢٦) وابن عساكر (٣ / ٢١٠ / ٢) عن أبي عبد الرحمن المقري أنبأنا حيوة عن بكر بن عمرو عن مشرح بن هاعان عن عقبة بن عامر مرفوعا. ثم رواه النجاد من طريق ابن لهيعة عن مشرح به. قلت: وهذا سند حسن رجاله كلهم ثقات، وفي مشرح كلام لا ينزل حديثه عن رتبة الحسن، وقد وثقه ابن معين. وله شاهدان أحدهما من حديث عصمة. رواه الطبراني وفيه الفضل بن المختار وهو ضعيف. والآخر عن أبي سعيد الخدري. رواه الطبراني في " الأوسط ". قال الهيثمي (٩ / ٦٨) :" وفيه عبد المنعم بن بشير وهو ضعيف ".

- "What is the matter with people to whom something has reached from me, in which I have given a concession, yet they dislike it and abstain from it? By Allāh, I am the most knowledgeable of them about Allāh and the most fearful of Him."
