(11723), Ibn Ḥibbān (163), Ibn Abī Shaybah (11/31), Ibn Naṣr in "al-Ṣalāh" (560), al-Lālakāʾī in "Sharḥ Uṣūl Ahl al-Sunnah" (1496), Ibn Mandah in "al-Īmān" (161), al-Ṭayālisī (27-28), Aḥmad (5/69), al-Ḥumaydī (68), ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd (140), Abū Yaʿlá (733, 778), al-Haytham al-Shāshī (91), al-Bazzār (1087 - al-Baḥr al-Zakhkhār), al-Ṭabarī in "Tahdhīb al-Āthār" (p. 680 - Musnad Ibn ʿAbbās), Abū Nuʿaym in "al-Ḥilyah" (6/191), and al-Khaṭīb in "Tārīkh" (3/119) from various chains from al-Zuhrī from ʿĀmir ibn Saʿd from his father, attributed to the Prophet. Their wordings vary, and the context is from Aḥmad. Al-Bazzār said after narrating it: "This statement was reported from Saʿd, from ʿAmr ibn Taghlib, and from others. The ḥadīth of Saʿd has a sound isnād; so we sufficed with it." I said: His saying "their deviation" means their inclination away from the truth and the weakness of their faith. It is also said to mean their sin. Its origin is a disease in the legs of an animal causing it to limp, and a man who is "deviant" means one who is inclined and sinful. This is mentioned in "al-Nihāyah" (3/159) by Ibn al-Athīr.*
