as for the other two narrations, there is a flaw in their chains of transmission; whether it is the narration of Abū Bakr ibn ʿAyyāsh or the narration of Jarīr—who is Ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd al-Ḍabbī—there is discussion regarding their memorization. *

"I give to the Quraysh to win their hearts, because they are new to the era of ignorance." It was narrated by al-Bukhārī in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (3146) through the path of Abū al-Walīd: Shuʿbah narrated to us from Qatādah from Anas (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. It was also narrated (4334) through the path of Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar—Ghundar—from Shuʿbah who said: I heard Qatādah from Anas ibn Mālik (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) gathered some people from the Anṣār and said: "The Quraysh are new to the era of ignorance and calamity, and I wanted to mend and win them over. Are you not pleased that people return with worldly gains, while you return with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) to your homes?!" They said: Yes. He said: "If people took a valley and the Anṣār took a path, I would take the valley of the Anṣār or the path of the Anṣār." I said: From this narration, the reason for the occurrence of the ḥadīth of the chapter can be understood. It was also narrated by Muslim (3/106), al-Tirmidhī (3901), Aḥmad (3/172), and Abū Yaʿlá (3002) through paths from Ghundar. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī (3147 and 4331), Muslim (3/105), ʿAbd al-Razzāq (19908), Ibn Ḥibbān (7278), and Abū Yaʿlá (3594) through paths from al-Zuhrī from Anas in a raised form with the wording: "I indeed give to men who are new to disbelief to win their hearts." *
