"Oh, this is the essence of usury, do not do it. But if you wish to buy dates, sell it for another sale, then buy with it." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (2312), Muslim, Ibn Ḥibbān (5022), and Aḥmad (3/62); and it adds at the end: "as you wish." Its chain is good. It was narrated by Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr from Abū Salamah from Abū Saʿīd in a marfūʿ form with the wording: "It is not permissible to exchange a measure of dates for two measures, nor a dirham for two dirhams, and the dirham for the dirham, and the dinar for the dinar; and there is no excess between them except by weight." It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2256), and Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (7/102/2529). I say: Its chain is ḥasan.
