has committed a great falsehood against Allāh. He said: I was reclining, so I sat up and said: O Mother of the Believers! Give me time and do not hasten me. Did not Allāh say: "And indeed, he saw him on the clear horizon" and "And he certainly saw him in another descent"?! She said: I am the first of this nation to ask the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about that, and he said: ... and she mentioned it. She said: Have you not heard that Allāh says: "Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted"?! Have you not heard that Allāh says: "It is not for any human being that Allāh should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a veil, or [that] He sends a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Most High and Wise"?! She said: And whoever claims that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) concealed anything from the Book of Allāh has committed a great falsehood against Allāh, and Allāh says: "O Messenger, convey that which has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message." She said: And whoever claims that he informs about what will happen tomorrow has committed a great falsehood against Allāh, and Allāh says: "Say, 'None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allāh.'"
فقد أعظم على الله الفرية، قال: وكنت متكئاً فجلست، فقلت: يا أم المؤمنين! أنظريني ولا تعجليني، ألم يقل الله- ﷿: ﴿ولقد رآه بالأفق المبين﴾ ، ﴿ولقد رآه نزلة أخرى﴾ ؟! فقالت: أنا أول هذه الأمة سأل عن ذلك رسول الله ﷺ؟ فقال: ... فذكره. فقالت: أولم تسمع أن الله يقول: ﴿لا تدركه الأبصار وهو يُدركُ الأبصار وهو اللطيف الخبير﴾ ؟! أولم تسمع أن الله يقول: ﴿وما كان لبشر أن يُكلمه الله إلا وحياً أومن وراء حجاب أو يرسل رسولاً فيوحي بإذنه ما يشاء إنه عليٌ حكيم﴾ ؟! قالت: ومن زعم أن رسول الله ﷺ كتم شيئاً من كتاب الله؛ فقد أعظم على الله الفرية، والله يقول: ﴿يا أيها الرسول بلغ ما أنزل إليك من ربك وإن لم تفعل فما بلغت رسالته﴾ . قالت: ومن زعم أنه يخبر بما يكون في غد؛ فقد أعظم على الله الفرية، والله يقول: ﴿قل لا يعلم من في السماوات والأرض الغيب إلا الله﴾ . *
- (The example of the one who goes early to prayer is like the one who offers a camel, then the one after him is like the one who offers a cow, then the one after him is like the one who offers a ram, then the one after him is like the one who offers a chicken, then the one after him is like the one who offers an egg). It is from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, and there are several chains from him: the first is al-Agharr from him: narrated by al-Bukhārī (929), Muslim (3/7-8), and al-Nasāʾī (1/138) - and the wording is his -
