and of this kind: what Ibn Abī Shaybah recorded in "al-Muṣannaf" (1/132) with a chain of trustworthy narrators from Ibrāhīm: that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) slept in the mosque until he snored, then he got up and prayed without performing ablution, as the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) his eyes sleep, but his heart does not sleep. And this Ibrāhīm: is Ibn Yazīd al-Nakhaʿī, the follower and jurist. So I say: these mursal and muʿḍal narrations; their concurrence gives strength to the ḥadīth. Among them is the ḥadīth of Shahr ibn Ḥawshab: Ibn ʿAbbās said: a group of Jews attended the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) one day, and they said: O Abū al-Qāsim! Tell us about traits we will ask you about, which only a prophet knows? He said: "Ask me whatever you wish..." He mentioned their questions and the Prophet's (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) answers to them, and among them he said to them: "Do you know that this unlettered prophet his eyes sleep, but his heart does not sleep?!" They said: By Allāh! Yes. This story has also come with another chain better than this; shorter than this; and in it they said: Inform us about the sign of the Prophet? He said: "His eyes sleep, but his heart does not sleep." It was narrated by a group of them, including al-Tirmidhī, who authenticated it; and it is recorded in "al-Ṣaḥīḥah" (1873). This clarifies that the origin of those mursal narrations and likewise the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah; is indeed from the saying of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). And thus it was narrated by Muḥammad ibn ʿAjlān from his father from Abū Hurayrah from him (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam); and it is also recorded in "al-Ṣaḥīḥah" (696)
