(His eyes would sleep, but his heart would not sleep). It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (2/431) through the route of Yaʿqūb ibn Muḥammad al-Zuhrī: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad narrated to us from Sharīk ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Namr from Anas (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: ... and he mentioned it. He said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim!" Thus he said! Al-Dhahabī refuted him by saying: "I say: Yaʿqūb is weak, and Muslim did not narrate from him." And I say: This ḥadīth is well-known among the early generations, to the extent that it suffices without the isnād, and its origin is the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhumā) regarding the Prophet's (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prayer at night: Then he lay down and slept until he snored, then he got up for the Fajr prayer and prayed without performing ablution. It was recorded by the two Shaykhs and others, and it is also found in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abū Dāwūd" under numbers (1224-1229) in both extended and abbreviated forms. In a narration by al-Bukhārī (138- Fatḥ) in this ḥadīth through the route of Sufyān from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār ... he narrated the ḥadīth, and in it: We said to ʿAmr: Some people say that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) his eyes sleep but his heart does not sleep ... And there is no doubt that the people ʿAmr refers to are the Companions whom ʿAmr met, or the senior Followers, and for this reason, Sufyān affirmed it in the narration of Muslim (2/180), saying: Sufyān said: And this is specific to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam); because it has reached us that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) his eyes sleep, but his heart does not sleep
