some are detailed, and some are concise, and the most complete is the path of ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār in "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim." And he—meaning ʿIkrimah ibn ʿAmmār—is reliable in his ḥadīth when narrating from others besides Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr. However, his narration from him specifically has been criticized; therefore, the ḥāfiẓ said in his biography: "Truthful; makes mistakes, and his narration from Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr is inconsistent, and he did not have a book." I said: And who does not make mistakes?! Indeed, his narration of this ḥadīth is the greatest evidence of his memorization and accuracy in what he narrates. He has been followed by more than one person from Salamah in some of its parts, and some of them are in "the Two Ṣaḥīḥs," so refer if you wish (4532, 4540, 4543, 4551) in "Tuḥfat al-Ashrāf." I have found a follower for him on the ḥadīth of the chapter; but among them is one whose following is not rejoiced over; al-Ṭabarānī said with the aforementioned number (6300): Muḥammad ibn Yūnus narrated to us: Nāṣir ibn ʿAlī narrated to us: Ḥammād ibn Masʿadah narrated to us from Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd from Salamah who said: ʿĀmir, my uncle, came and said: Give me your weapon, so I gave it to him, then I came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: Provide me with a weapon. He said: "Where is your weapon?" I said: I gave it to ʿĀmir, my uncle. He said: "I find no one resembling you except the one who said: Grant me a brother dearer to me than myself"; so he gave me his bow, his shield, and three arrows from his quiver. I said: And this Muḥammad ibn Yūnus: he is al-ʿAṣfūrī—known as al-Kadīmī—and he is accused of fabricating ḥadīth.
