he said: So I went to ʿAlī and brought him, leading him while he was suffering from an eye ailment, until I brought him to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). He spat in his eyes, and he was cured. He gave him the banner, and Marhab came out, saying: "Khaybar knows that I am Marhab, armed and experienced in battle, when wars advance, they ignite." ʿAlī said: "I am the one my mother named Ḥaydarah, like the lion of the jungle, fearsome in appearance, I repay them with the measure of the mighty." he said: So he struck Marhab's head and killed him, and then the victory was at his hands. I said: Muslim narrated it in this complete form from the path of ʿIkrimah—who is Ibn ʿAmmār—he said: Iyas ibn Salamah narrated it to me. And it was also narrated by Ibrāhīm—who is Abū Isḥāq Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Sufyān al-Nīsābūrī, the jurist, the narrator of "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim." It was also narrated by Imām Aḥmad (4/48) — in whole or in part — and al-Bayhaqī, separately, in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (4/138, 182, and 207).
