"May your Lord forgive you!" It was said: And the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) never prayed for forgiveness for a person specifically except that he was martyred. ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb then called out while on his camel: "O Prophet of Allāh! If only you had let ʿĀmir remain with us!" It was said: When we arrived at Khaybar, their king Marḥab came out brandishing his sword and saying: "Khaybar knows that I am Marḥab, fully armed and experienced in battle, when the wars ignite." It was said: My uncle ʿĀmir came out to face him and said: "Khaybar knows that I am ʿĀmir, fully armed and a daring hero." It was said: They exchanged two strikes, and Marḥab's sword struck ʿĀmir's shield. ʿĀmir went to strike him from below, but his sword recoiled upon himself and cut his own wrist, which led to his death. Salamah said: I went out and found a group of the Prophet's (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) companions saying: "ʿĀmir's deeds are void; he killed himself." It was said: I went to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) crying and said: "O Messenger of Allāh! Are ʿĀmir's deeds void?" The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Who said that?!" It was said: I said: "Some people from your companions." He said: "Whoever said that is wrong! Rather, he will have his reward twice." Then he sent me to ʿAlī, who was suffering from an eye ailment, and said: "I will give the banner to a man who loves Allāh and His Messenger, or whom Allāh and His Messenger love."
