"except for the idhkhir." Muslim added: al-Walīd said: I asked al-Awzāʿī, "What does his statement mean: 'Write for me, O Messenger of Allāh!'?" He said: This is the khuṭbah that he heard from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). *

"no woman among them asks me except that I inform her. Indeed, Allāh did not send me to cause difficulty or hardship, but He sent me as a teacher and one who makes things easy." It was recorded by Muslim (4/187-188), al-Bayhaqī (7/38), and Aḥmad (3/328) through the route of Abū al-Zubayr from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh who said: Abū Bakr entered seeking permission to see the Messenger of Allāh... the ḥadīth, and in it: the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was sitting with his wives around him; they were asking him for provision, and the revelation of Allāh's saying: "O Prophet, say to your wives" until it reached: "for the doers of good among you a great reward" (Sūrah al-Aḥzāb, verses 28-29), so he said: "O ʿĀʾishah! I want to present to you a matter; I would like you not to rush into it until you consult your parents." She said: "And what is it, O Messenger of Allāh?" So he recited to her the verse. She said: "Should I consult my parents about you, O Messenger of Allāh? Rather, I choose Allāh, His Messenger, and the Hereafter, and I ask you not to inform any of your wives about what I said." He said: ... and he mentioned the ḥadīth. And Abū al-Zubayr is known for tadlīs; and I have not found a clear statement from him of hearing in this story. However, it has a supporting narration in general in the long ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās similar to this story, and at its end: Maʿmar said. Ayyūb informed me that ʿĀʾishah said: "Do not inform your wives that I chose you." The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to her:
