but the ḥadīth has many supporting narrations indicating that it has a basis, some of which were mentioned earlier under numbers (916, 917, and 3430).
لكن الحديث له شواهد كثيرة تدل على أنه له أصلاً، تقدم بعضها برقم (٩١٦ و٩١٧ و٣٤٣٠) . *
"Bathe on Friday, and wash your heads, even if you are not in a state of major ritual impurity." It was recorded by Ibn Khuzaymah (3/129/1759), Ibn Ḥibbān (4/196/2771), and Aḥmad (1/265), all from Ibn Isḥāq: Muḥammad ibn Muslim ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī narrated to me from Ṭāwūs al-Yamānī who said: I said to Ibn ʿAbbās: They claim that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it, adding: "and apply perfume." Ibn ʿAbbās said: As for the perfume, I do not know, but as for the bathing, yes. Shuʿayb ibn Abī Ḥamzah also narrated it from al-Zuhrī. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (884) and al-Bayhaqī (1/297). Al-Zuhrī was followed by Ibrāhīm ibn Maysarah from Ṭāwūs with it. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (885) and Muslim (3/4). The wording of Shuʿayb's ḥadīth in Aḥmad (1/130) is: al-Zuhrī was asked: Is there an obligatory bath on Friday? He said: Sālim ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar narrated to me that he heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar say: I heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: "Whoever comes to Friday [prayer], let him bathe."
