May Allāh have mercy on Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān! Did the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) abandon his wives for a month, and then descend after twenty-nine days? It was said to him, and he replied: "The month can indeed be twenty-nine." I said: Its isnād is good. However, ʿĀʾishah's criticism of Ibn ʿUmar is not justified, for it is authentically reported from Ibn ʿUmar similar to what ʿĀʾishah said. It was narrated by al-Bukhārī and Muslim, among others, and it is also found in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (2008). 4- It was narrated by Muslim (3/125) and Ibn Ḥibbān (3443) from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) withdrew from his wives for a month, and he came out to us on the morning of the twenty-ninth day. Some of the people said: O Messenger of Allāh! We have only reached the morning of the twenty-ninth day?! The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "The month can be twenty-nine," then the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) gestured with his hands twice using all his fingers, and the third time with nine of them. *
