I said: The reason for the strangeness was explained by the ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr, who said in "Tafsīr": "And it is strange due to the mention of the revelation of this verse, while the entire sūrah is Makkan, and Allāh knows best." I said: Its isnād is weak due to the weakness of Ṭarīf. However, it is strengthened by the fact that it has a supporting narration from Ibn ʿAbbās; narrated by Simāk from ʿIkrimah from him, who said: The Anṣār had distant homes from the mosque, so they wanted to move closer, and the verse was revealed: "And We record what they have sent before and their traces." He said: So they remained. It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (785), and also by Ibn Jarīr. I said: And this isnād has narrators who are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim; but some have spoken about Simāk, especially in his narration from ʿIkrimah. Nevertheless, al-Mundhirī said in "al-Targhīb" (1/27/10): "Ibn Mājah narrated it with a good isnād"! And it was strengthened by the ḥāfiẓ in "al-Fatḥ"! Thus, the ḥadīth is authentic when considering both chains, especially since it has other abbreviated supporting narrations, without mentioning the verse. Among them: from Anas (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: Banū Salimah wanted to move closer to the mosque, but the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) disliked that Madīnah be left bare and said: "O Banū Salimah! Will you not count your steps?" So they stayed. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (655, 666, 1887), Ibn Mājah (784), al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (3/66/2887), and Aḥmad (3/106, 182, 263)
