"recite." He said, "What should I recite, O Messenger of Allāh?!" The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, "Recite: 'Say: I seek refuge with the Lord of the daybreak.'" He repeated it to him until he recited it, and he knew that I was very pleased with it! He said, "Perhaps you underestimated it! You will not stand in prayer with anything like it." Narrated by Aḥmad (4/149). *

"Indeed, your traces are recorded." Narrated by al-Tirmidhī (3226), al-Ṭabarī in "al-Tafsīr" (10/100), Ibn Abī Ḥātim in "al-Tafsīr" (10/3190), al-Ḥākim (2/428), and al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (3/67/2890), all from the route of Abū Sufyān Ṭarīf ibn Shihāb from Abū Naḍrah from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī who said: Banū Salamah were in a part of Madīnah, and they wanted to move closer to the mosque, so this verse was revealed: "Indeed, it is We who bring the dead to life and record what they have put forth and their traces." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... so he mentioned it, and they did not move. Al-Ḥākim said, "Authentic isnād!" and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. As for al-Tirmidhī; he said, "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan gharīb."
