and al-Ḥākim said—and the addition is his: "The isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. Third: from al-Qāsim Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir, who said: While I was leading the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) through one of those mountain passes, he said to me, "O ʿUqbah! Will you not ride?" He said: I held the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in too high regard to ride his mount, then he said, "O ʿUqayb! Will you not ride?" He said: I feared it might be disobedience, so the Messenger (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) dismounted and I rode for a short while, then he rode, then he said, "O ʿUqayb! Shall I not teach you two of the best sūrahs that people recite?" He said: I replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allāh!" He then recited to me "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak" and "Say, I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind." Then the prayer was established, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) led it and recited them, then he passed by me and said, "What do you think, O ʿUqayb? Recite them whenever you sleep and whenever you rise." It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (1462), and Aḥmad (4/144)—and the context is his. Fourth: from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from Saʿīd ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Maqburī, from his father, from ʿUqbah, similar to it. Narrated by Abū Dāwūd (1463). And Ibn Isḥāq is a mudallis. Fifth: from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir, who said: The Messenger (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was gifted a dappled mule, so he rode it, and ʿUqbah led it for him; then the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to ʿUqbah:
