and the people would drink until one of them would come to prayer while intoxicated; then a verse was revealed that was more severe than that: "O you who have believed, indeed, intoxicants, gambling, [sacrificial] stones, and divining arrows are but defilement from the work of Satan, so avoid it that you may be successful." They said, "We have ceased, our Lord!" The people said, "O Messenger of Allāh! Some people were killed in the way of Allāh, or died on their beds; they used to drink wine and consume gambling, and Allāh has made it defilement and from the work of Satan?" Then Allāh revealed: "There is not upon those who believe and do righteous deeds [any] blame for what they have consumed if they fear Allāh and believe..." to the end of the verse. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, "If it had been forbidden to them, they would have abandoned it as you have abandoned it." It was recorded by Aḥmad (2/351-352). I said: Its isnād is weak; Abū Wahb is unknown. And Abū Maʿshar—his name is Najīḥ—is weak. Al-Haythamī said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (5/51): "It was narrated by Aḥmad, and Abū Wahb, the freed slave of Abū Hurayrah, was not criticized by anyone nor was he authenticated, and Abū Najīḥ is weak due to poor memory, although more than one has authenticated him." Al-Ḥāfiẓ was silent about it in "al-Fatḥ" (10/31). 3- As for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās; it is narrated by Rabīʿah ibn Kulthūm ibn Jabr from his father from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr from him, saying:
وكان الناس يشربون حتى يأتي أحدهم الصلاة وهو مُغْبِق (١) ؛ ثم أنزلت آيةأغلظ من ذلك: "يا أيها الذين آمنوا إنما الخمر والميسر والأنصاب والأزلامرجس من عمل الشيطان فاجتنبوه لعلكم تفلحون"، فقالوا: انتهينا ربنا! فقالالناس: يا رسول الله! ناس قتلوا في سبيل الله، أو ماتوا على فرشهم؛ كانوا يشربونالخمر، ويأكلون الميسر، وقد جعله الله رجساً ومن عمل الشيطان؟ فأنزل الله: "ليسعلى الذين آمنوا وعملوا الصالحات جناح فيما طعموا إذا ما اتقوا وآمنوا ... "إلى آخر الآية، فقال النبي ﷺ:«لو حرمت عليهم؛ لتركوها كما تركتم» . أخرجه أحمد (٢/ ٣٥١- ٣٥٢) .قلت: وهو إسناد ضعيف؛ أبو وهب هذا لا يعرف.وأبو معشر- واسمه نجيح-؛ ضعيف. وقال الهيثمي في «مجمع الزوائد»(٥/٥١) :«رواه أحمد، وأبو وهب مولى أبي هريرة لم يجرحه أحد ولم يوثقه، وأبو نجيحضعيف لسوء حفظه، وقد وثقه غير واحد» !وسكت عنه الحافظ في «الفتح» (١٠/٣١) . ٣- وأما حديث ابن عباس؛ فيرويه ربيعة بن كلثوم بن جبر عن أبيه عنسعيد بن جبير عنه قال:
