and it was narrated by Aḥmad just before this, with the same isnād; except that he replaced (Ḥuṣayn) with ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah ... with the wording: "I saw Gabriel at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary, and he had six hundred wings." He said: I asked ʿĀṣim about the wings, but he refused to inform me. He said: Then some of his companions informed me that the wings spanned from the east to the west. Ibn Jarīr also narrated it (27/29). He was followed in this isnād by Ḥammād ibn Salamah from ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah; except that he said: from Zur from Ibn Masʿūd. It was narrated by Aḥmad (1/412 and 460), al-Nasāʾī in "al-Sunan al-Kubrā" (6/473/11542), Ibn Jarīr as well, Ibn Khuzaymah in "al-Tawḥīd" (p. 133), and al-Bayhaqī in "Dalāʾil al-Nubuwwah" (2/372), all from Ḥammād with it, and his wording: "I saw Gabriel at the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary; he had six hundred wings, from which scattered embellishments: pearls and rubies." This isnād is good and strong, as Ibn Kathīr said. It was narrated by Sharīk from ʿĀṣim from Abū Wāʾil from ʿAbdullāh with the wording: "From his wing falls — of embellishments, pearls, and rubies — what Allāh knows." It was narrated by Aḥmad (1/395). And Sharīk is weak. And there is another route; from Isrāʾīl from Abū Isḥāq from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd from ʿAbdullāh regarding His saying: "The heart did not lie [about] what it saw" (Sūrah al-Najm, verse 11), he said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw Gabriel in a robe of green silk, filling what was between the heaven and the earth
