"Gabriel came to me in a green garment adorned with pearls." It was recorded by Aḥmad (1/407): Zayd ibn al-Ḥubāb narrated to us: Ḥusayn narrated to me: Ḥuṣayn narrated to me: Shaqīq said: I heard Ibn Masʿūd say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. It was also recorded by Abū al-Shaykh in "al-ʿAẓamah" (2/774-475/349), and al-Dāraqutnī in "al-Gharāʾib wa-al-Afrād" (Q 224/1 - al-Aṭrāf) through other chains from Zayd ibn al-Ḥubāb with it. Al-Dāraqutnī said: "It was uniquely narrated by al-Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid, and from him by Zayd ibn al-Ḥubāb and others, and with it from al-Ḥusayn from ʿĀṣim." I say: This isnād is good; as al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr said in "al-Tafsīr" (4/251), and its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim, and in some of them, there is discussion that does not lower his ḥadīth from the rank of ḥasan. As for Shaykh Aḥmad Shākir, may Allāh have mercy on him, he said (5/330): "Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ"! Our esteemed brother Riḍā al-Mubārakfūrī criticized it in his commentary on "al-ʿAẓamah" by saying: "It contains Ḥuṣayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who is trustworthy but his memory changed in the end, and Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid was not mentioned among those who heard from him before the change"!
