"al-Tārīkh" (8/448) narrated by three of the ḥuffāẓ; among them al-Ṭabarānī, and he did not mention any criticism or praise; and it appeared as "al-Marw al-Rūdhī," which is correct. It is also said: (al-Marwudhī); as in "al-Ansāb" and "al-Lubāb." Therefore, what is in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr": "al-Marwazī" with a zāy after the rāʾ is incorrect! It is actually with a dhāl, and see "al-Rawḍ al-Naḍīr" number (30).

(If one of you seeks permission three times and is not granted it, let him return). It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (6245), Muslim (6/177-179), Abū Dāwūd (5180-5184), al-Tirmidhī (2690), al-Dārimī (2/274), Ibn Mājah (3706), Ibn Ḥibbān (5776), and Aḥmad (3/6 and 19) from Abū Saʿīd and others; Abū Saʿīd said: I was in a gathering of the Anṣār when Abū Mūsá came as if he was alarmed and said: I sought permission from ʿUmar three times and was not granted it, so I returned. He said: What prevented you? I said: I sought permission three times and was not granted it, so I returned, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "If one of you seeks permission three times and is not granted it, let him return." He said: By Allāh! You must provide evidence for it. Did any of you hear it from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)? Ubayy ibn Kaʿb said: By Allāh! None will stand with you except the youngest of the people, and I was the youngest of the people, so I stood with him and informed ʿUmar that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said that. The context is from al-Bukhārī and Muslim. In another wording of his — which is the wording of al-Tirmidhī —: "The seeking of permission is three times, if you are granted it, then [enter], otherwise; return." Al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ."
