and it is also supported by the ḥadīth of Anas, who said: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when a man came and greeted the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and the people. The man said: Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allāh. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) replied: "And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allāh and His blessings." When the man sat down, he said: All praise is due to Allāh, much, pure, and blessed, as our Lord loves and deserves to be praised. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: "What did you say?" He repeated it as he had said, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "By the One in whose hand is my soul! Ten angels hastened to record it; each of them eager to write it down, but they did not know how to write it until they raised it to the Possessor of Might, who said: Write it as My servant said it." It was recorded by Aḥmad (3/158): narrated by Khalaf from Ḥafṣ ibn ʿUmar from Anas... and from this chain, it was also recorded by al-Nasāʾī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (289/341), as well as by Ibn al-Sunnī (143/438). I say: This isnād has trustworthy men; however, Khalaf—who is Ibn Khalīfah—became confused in the end. In summary, the ḥadīth is at least ḥasan with all that we have mentioned. And Allāh knows best. *
