ʿAbd al-Malik—he said: Zakarīyā ibn ʿAdī narrated to us, he said: Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us from ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal from Abū ʿUthmān from Salmān, who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād has narrators all of whom are trustworthy, except for Yūsuf ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Wāsiṭī al-Daqīqī, who is not mentioned in the books of al-jarḥ wa-al-taʿdīl. Al-Mundhirī pointed to this by saying in "al-Targhīb" (2/254/3): "al-Ṭabarānī narrated it with an isnād that requires scrutiny." Al-Haythamī clarified this by saying (10/96): "al-Ṭabarānī narrated it in 'al-Awsaṭ', and it includes Yūsuf ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Wāsiṭī; I do not know him, and the rest of the narrators are trustworthy." I said: And he was narrated from by (Baḥshal) in "Tārīkh Wāsiṭ" (p. 109 and 236), so he is suitable for citation (1). Al-Mundhirī supported his ḥadīth by saying: "Abū al-Shaykh Ibn Ḥayyān narrated from the path of ʿAṭiyyah from Abū Saʿīd in a marfūʿ form as well: 'When the servant says: All praise is due to Allāh abundantly; Allāh, the Exalted, says: Write for My servant My mercy abundantly' ..." He has gone far afield! For it was narrated from the mentioned source by Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (10/295/9484), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Duʿāʾ" (3/1562/1685).
