"indeed, the people are my outer garment, and the Anṣār are my inner garment..." the ḥadīth continues: "So whoever is put in charge of their affairs, let him be kind to their good-doers and overlook their wrongdoers. Whoever frightens them has frightened this one between these two," and he pointed to himself (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). In the wording of "al-Awsaṭ": and he pointed to his chest, meaning: his heart. It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/307), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (9/414-415/8892); he said: "No one narrated it from Abū Qatādah except Yaḥyá ibn al-Naḍr, and Abū Ṣakhr was unique in narrating it." I say: He is trustworthy, from the men of Muslim, as are those below him. And Ibn al-Naḍr is also trustworthy, so the isnād is authentic, and it was authenticated by al-Ḥākim (4/79), and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. 4- Among them: from Zayd ibn Saʿd from his father: that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he was informed of his impending death, went out wrapped in a cloak, until he sat on the pulpit. The people and the market folk heard of him and gathered in the mosque. He praised Allāh and extolled Him, then said: "O people! Take care of this group of the Anṣār for me; for they are my stomach in which I eat, and my inner container. Accept the good-doer among them and overlook the wrongdoer."
