I was among the people of the Ṣuffah, and indeed I saw us, and none of us had a complete garment on, and sweat mixed with dust and dirt on our skins; when the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) came out to us and said: "Let the poor among the emigrants rejoice." Then a man with a fine appearance approached, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did not speak a word except that the man felt compelled to speak words that would surpass those of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)! When he departed, he said: ... and he mentioned it. Abū Nuʿaym narrated part of it in "Ḥilyat al-Awliyāʾ" (2/21-22) up to the point of the glad tidings, and al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (4/251/4973) what follows. I said: The isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī. Al-Mundhirī said in "al-Targhīb" (4/93/41): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī with isnāds; and the men of one of them are the men of (the Ṣaḥīḥ)!" And similarly, al-Haythamī said (10/261): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī with isnāds, and the men of one of them are the men of (the Ṣaḥīḥ)!" Their statement: "with isnāds" is misleading, as there are only two paths from Ṣadaqah ibn Khālid; as previously mentioned. *

- (The righteousness of the beginning of this ummah was due to asceticism and certainty, and its end will be destroyed by miserliness and hope). It was recorded by Aḥmad in "al-Zuhd" (p. 10), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ" (8/316/7646), Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (6/127), and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab"
